Ohio's Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program has over $ 11 million dollars available for residents to claim for purchasing eligible Energy Star appliances.

Ohio’s Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program begins March 26, 2010. Ohio residents have over $11,000,000 in rebates available. There are, however, limitations as to what products can be purchased and when the products can be purchased to be eligible for the rebate.

How the Energy Star Rebate Program Works in Ohio

Ohio residents who replace an appliance with a qualifying energy efficient Energy Star appliance on or after March 26, 2010 can apply for a rebate. Consumers have through April 19, 2010 to purchase qualified refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes washers. Once the April 19 date has elapsed, these products will no longer be eligible for the rebate.

For qualified gas storage water heaters and electric pump water heaters, consumers have until May 24, 2010 to purchase these to qualify for the energy efficient appliance rebate.

Which Appliances Qualify in Ohio’s Cash for Appliances Program? How Much is the Rebate?

Energy efficient rebates for Ohio residents apply to the following types of appliances. The dollar amount that is available is also listed.

  • Refrigerator: $100
  • Clothes washer: $150
  • Dishwasher: $100
  • High efficiency gas storage water heater: $100
  • Electric heat pump water heater: $250

Participants in the Energy Star rebate program in Ohio who wish to purchase a refrigerator should note that the refrigerator must be 7.75 cubic feet or greater to qualify. Mini refrigerators do not qualify.

While some of these rebates may not seem to be a significant amount, many appliance stores will offer additional discounts for consumers to purchase their Energy Star appliance at their particular store. Also, there are several utility incentives for purchasing an energy efficient appliance. These can be located for Ohio customers at the DSIRE website.

Ohio encourages residents taking advantage of the appliance rebate program to recycle old appliances. Some appliance stores that deliver the new energy efficient appliance will remove the old appliance for free.
